Okay, I know you are probably thinking right now that my direct reference to a lobster in the same sentence as the security of our great nation has got to be some kind of a joke or a specific reference to what I had for dinner last night in advance of the New Year’s Eve celebration.   Not only am I pleased to tell you that you are completely wrong on both counts (  I had steak & potatoes for dinner and went to bed at 1900 )  but I am equally excited and appreciative to my world renowned eye specialist and surgeon Dr. Sullivan in Olympia, Washington for bringing this specific relationship between lobsters and national security to my attention during my most recent eye exam with him at his office last Friday.  During the process of conducting the most recent series of tests on my eyes, Dr. Sullivan asked me if I had ever heard of the ” LEXID ” detection system and went on to explain that it was a technological innovation that involved the use of specialized optical capabilities that are very similar to those that are possessed by lobsters which will allow the viewers to see through walls and barriers and establish shapes and sizes of objects in elements that are similar to what lobsters deal with all the time in murky waters.   While he also discussed his interest in the security of the United States of America, Dr. Sullivan really illustrated his incredible expertise by rattling off many of the terms and processes of his specialty by referencing words such as reflection, x-rays, imaging and collimating optics and how they pertained directly to the capabilities of lobsters and why this new technological innovation that is known as the LEXID System was helping to protect our country from a terrorist attack.  I also promised Dr. Sullivan that I would conduct some follow up research on this particular subject and report back to him with my findings in advance of my next appointment during the first part of 2008.

Having kept my promise and knocked out this objective in record time, I want to first of all inform you that this LEXID System is not to be mistaken for the ” Lex i.d. “ device which is an access control system pertaining to identification cards among other things.  Instead, this LEXID System stands for Lobster Eye X-Ray Imaging Device and eventhough it is still in the early phases of implementation, this system has demonstrated enormous potential for security officials, screeners, customs and cargo inspectors among others to greatly enhance the quality and effectiveness of their searches through this hand held device that will perform as effectively as if you were holding a live lobster in your hands with a monitor nearby.  For example, with the LEXID System, airport screeners would have the increased capability and efficiency they are looking for when it comes to searching the volumes of bags that they inspect on a daily basis and the same can be said as well for the customs and cargo inspectors and the incredible volumes of people and freight that they have to deal with all the time on a twenty four seven basis.

Just as important as the technological innovations such as the LEXID System that are being developed for the purpose of protecting our country at a time of war is the added benefit that gifted professionals such as Dr. Sullivan are providing for this effort by putting  forth their professional skills and expertise in the name of national security which is exactly what is happening here with the LEXID System.  From the wheat rancher in Eastern Washington with incredible knowledge of and expertise pertaining directly to crop dusters, chemicals, irrigation sources and wind patterns that scumbag terrorists such as Zacarias Moussaoui would absolutely love to get their hands on to the world renowned specialists in ophthamology such as Dr. Sullivan in Olympia, I am very excited and honored by the fact that so many of our gifted professionals and Real Americans throughout our great nation are taking an active interest in applying their specialties to the comprehensive and complicated effort to protect their fellow citizens at a time of war as their decisions to volunteer their skills and answer the call of duty on their own initiative is something that I am very proud of to say the very least.  This call to duty as Dr. Sullivan and so many others have displayed throughout the War on Terrorism has also proven once again that ” Everyone’s a player ” when it comes to protecting our country from terrorism as it is absolutely awesome that gifted professionals such as Dr. Sullivan are not only taking an active interest in our national security but are lending their incredible skills and expertise to the so called ” talent pool ” for the purpose of protecting our country at a time of war.

Therefore, check out the links to the LEXID System stories on the Scientific Enterprise and Physical Optics Corporation sites that I will provide for you below and I am sure you will agree with my assessment that the potential for this particular device that originated from lobster ophthamology is about as promising and attractive as a big red real lobster sitting on your plate at dinner time.

While you might have your eyes on this particular lobster for dinner tomorrow night, the reality is that the optical skills it possesses have the potential to benefit all of us big time in the War on Terrorism.
